We worked with our pro teams and triathletes to develop the CX01 technology for this advanced aerodynamic Wheel-Tire System. Together, we accomplished the goal of achieving marginal gains that make a big difference in time trials, triathlons, sprints and breakaways. To start with, NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aerodynamics) determined the airfoil shapes for the best aerodynamic performance that we used to design this system. From there, we integrated the rim and tire, along with the CX01 Blades, to optimize every component to achieve the perfect profile. The result? The CXR Ultimate 80 T can generate forward lift, and is even able to accelerate on its own, in 14 to 18° yaw angles. Not only does it offer the lowest possible drag, it also generates a very small and stable reaction in crosswinds for predictable steering. Triathlete Fred Van Lierde chooses this wheel system for the notoriously strong crosswinds of the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. While most of his competitors choose a 60mm wheel, he trusts the stability and aero advantages of this ultra-aero wheel. The CXR Ultimate tubular tire further stabilizes the ride by producing a very thin layer of air over surface of the tire. This “boundary layer” minimizes turbulence as air flows over the tire. Low friction bearings, smooth hub shapes and slender spokes all add to the marginal gains, helping propel the most demanding road and triathlon pros to better results.

Grip and control
A front tyre, whether a clincher or a tubular, must fully liberate the wheel’s ability to hold the ground and control the bike. Therefore, GripLink tyres are optimized for front use, by offering a superior grip and extra puncture protection.

Faster in every way
Mavic CX01 Technology delivers an integrated Wheel-Tyre System that smoothes air flow around the tyre and wheel and improves laminar airflow at every yaw angle. It enables Cosmic CXR wheels to deliver the lowest aerodynamic drag ever measured on a road Wheel-Tyre System.

Low rolling resistance
A rear tyre, whether a clincher or a tubular, must fully liberate the wheel’s ability to transfer power and generate speed. Therefore, PowerLink tyres are optimized for rear wheel use, by minimizing the rolling resistance.

Qualité de Roulements Mavic +
Our most demanding level. Those cartridge bearings are of course double sealed with C3 internal clearance, and toped with a micro-adjustability system.

Force Transfer System Light
Reinforcement of key transmission components: the contact area between the pawl and the hub body is reinforced by 2 stainless steel inserts, which allows the use of a 100% aluminum hub body.
